A hybrid is a car that is powered by a conventional engine, an electric motor and a hybrid battery. Hybrid cars like the Honda /Toyota hybrids can switch between the petrol engine and electric motor or combine both power sources depending on the driving scenario.

For low speed driving, coasting and decelerating hybrid cars mostly use their electric motor. When the engine isn’t needed, say if you’re idling at the lights, it shuts off altogether. This makes hybrids incredibly fuel-efficient as they tend to only use the engine for accelerating, climbing hills or when extra power is required.

In terms of performance, driving a hybrid is much like driving a regular car. Hybrids automatically charge their own hybrid battery so you don’t need to use an external charging point or worry about the distance you can drive.

Inevitably at some point you will need to fill up but with a Honda Jazz hybrid using just 3.3 L/100 km petrol costs are significantly reduced. Hybrid cars also emit less CO2 than conventional cars.

Yes, we try to make life a little easier and whatever option you choose to book with we will always send you a confirmation e-mail with the full costs and pick up details explained.

(a) When a booking is canceled more than 7 days in advance of the booking a full refund of the value of the booking will be returned

(b) When a booking is canceled less than 7 days in advance of the booking the first days hire of the booking will be charged

(c) When a booking is canceled less than 1 day  in advance of the booking a the full hire cost will be  charged

We reserve the right to charge a bond in following scenarios:

1) We charge your card the day before delivery , if for any reason the card is declined we will charge you a $500 bond.

2) Vehicles cannot leave the North Island unless arranged beforehand and a $1500 bond will need to be paid.

Our prices are in New Zealand dollars (NZD) and include Goods and Services Tax (GST) at 15%, unlimited kilometres and standard third party and public liability cover.

Yes, if you have not taken our ‘Peace of Mind’ insurance. The insurance excess is secured by your credit card.

Yes we can deliver your car to your motel in the Bay of Islands region for your convenience. Just contact us to arrange this once your booking has been confirmed.

If not local a $50 charge will be made for this service.

Yes, you can pay for the hire with a debit card. However, we still require a valid credit card to be held as security for the hire. 

Yes, please see the following images for the locations of key dropoff for Bay of Islands Airport. Blue star parking bays are numbers 33/34/35 . The keys need to be deposited in the key box shown on the bottom left picture , to the right of the hertz sign.

YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 25 YEARS OLD AND HAVE A FULL LICENCE.

Any driver over the age of 25 years may drive the vehicle as long as they comply with the terms and conditions of the contract; have a full valid driver’s licence, and a credit card.

Yes, however each driver must be included on the contract and have their drivers licence recorded/validated.  Any driver that is not listed will be considered outside of the terms and conditions and there will be no insurance protection.

All of our vehicles are covered 24/7 by AA Roadside Assist.  If you have any mechanical problems with the vehicle during your hire, call the AA on 0800 734 543 and quote the vehicle registration number.

There are no hidden fees when dealing with us, you have unlimited kms with all of our vehicles.

We offer one way rentals within the bay of islands as a complementary service (excluding Russell).  

Kaitaia and Whangarei airport $295 plus any rental costs.

We do not offer one way rentals to Auckland.

If you decide to return the vehicle early we are unable to provide a refund for the unused portion of the hire. Please contact us with an updated return time so we can ensure a staff member is ready to receive your vehicle.

As with anything not running to plan communication is key; let us know if you will be running late we will give you a 1 hour grace period. After the 1 hour has expired a full day’s rate will be charged.

Let us know at the first opportunity. We will do our very best to extend your rental, however in peak times we cannot guarantee this option is available.

Yes. But we would ask you to inform us in advance so we can discuss. A cleaning bond of $200 will be required.

Yes, however your baby seat or booster seat must have one of the following approved standards: AU/NZ Standard, European Standard or the American Standard restraint that complies with New Zealand law is acceptable to use in New Zealand.

Please note that all our vehicles are equipped with a tracking device.

If you have left an item behind, please phone or e-mail us at the first available opportunity. We will do everything we can to try and locate the item and get it returned to you ASAP.
